Keep text brief. Report only key aspects of each section (e.g., introduction, study area, methods, results, discussion). It is not advisable to display the entire text from a manuscript. Too much detail detracts from the primary message of the text.
If references are not included in the poster, please have print copies of the references available for the judges and guests.
Keep figures simple. Convey only one idea per figure, table, or photograph. Figures from publications, theses, or dissertations usually do not make good visuals. Too much detail detracts from the primary message of the figure.
Text and figures should be readable to someone standing at a distance of six feet. Adjust font and image sizes accordingly. BIG IS BEAUTIFUL and easy to read.
Photographs should clearly show what you want the audience to see.
Use appropriate blank space between words, sections, and figures.
Use appropriate and compatible colors for fonts, backgrounds, graphics, and matting. White backgrounds generally are best for text.
Simple typefaces are preferable to fancy fonts. Bold type may be effective on headings.
What should I wear to the poster session?
Business casual. This poster session is more casual than most major academic conferences.
How are the posters judged?
Posters in the research category are judged differently than posters in the vignette category.
Research posters are judged as follows: Background is clear and gives rationale, Methods are well-explained, Results are presented clearly and compared to other studies, Conclusion makes study’s application clear. The limitations of the study should be addressed.
Vignette posters are judged as follows: Introduction clearly presents problem and gaps in the current literature, Case Presentation gives a detailed description of patient/program/intervention and states outcomes, Discussion states relevance to current practice. The subject should be a novel concept or innovation, or a unique case with educational value.
ALL posters will be judged on their appearance, organization, and readability. As a presenter, you should be prepared to briefly summarize your work to judges and session attendees. Be prepared to answer their questions with more detail. You will be expected to stand by your poster throughout the session. You can expect about 10 attendees to talk to you about your poster. Posters with QR codes are acceptable.
Can I have someone (e.g. a coauthor) present on my behalf?
A coauthor may present your poster. It must be someone who has been involved in the research or project and is qualified to present the work! Please note: faculty are not allowed to present research on behalf of their students and residents.
Can I submit an abstract and present a poster on research that I have presented at another conference or for class?
Yes.
Can I submit an abstract or present a poster on research that has already been published?
No.
When is the poster session?
The poster session will take place during two of the workshop sessions on Saturday, October 18 at Remedy West Healthcare on Mission Conference.
Will our abstracts be published?
In short, no. CMDA does not have an academic journal. This does not preclude you from submitting your abstract to another poster session or a journal for publication.
How can I publish my research?
CMDA does not publish your research, nor is our conference citable. You can cite the presentation on your CV. Since we do not publish your abstract in a journal, this presentation will not be searchable as an academic citation on PubMed, ResearchGate, and other scholarly databases.
